Frequently asked questions
As a rule, employees are subject to compulsory health insurance and must be insured with a statutory health insurance fund.
Anyone insured with a health insurance fund pays a certain percentage of their gross salary each month for health and long-term care insurance. Since 01. Januar 2025, this has been 18.59 percent at BKK W&F. It is composed of the general contribution rate of 14,6 percent and the fund-specific additional contribution rate of 3,99 percent.
Members share both contribution rates with their employer, so that everyone pays 9.295 percent.
Special social insurance rules apply to some employees. For example, for trainees with a maximum wage/salary of 325 euros or mini-jobbers with up to euros per month. There are also special regulations for employees with a wage/salary between .01 and 2000 euros (2025) for the so-called transitional area. In this case, the employee’s percentage contribution increases gradually until the full contribution is deducted.
Employees whose regular income from employment exceeds at least (2025) per year – the so-called compulsory insurance threshold – can also take out voluntary statutory insurance immediately after leaving compulsory insurance.
