Additional payments

Co-payments are a form of financial participation in the costs of healthcare services. This contribution, also known as a co-payment, is intended to ensure that the insured person is aware of the benefits they are claiming.

Children and young people up to the age of 18 are exempt from co-payments (with the exception of travel costs). The total of all annual co-payments is limited by the individual contribution limit of two percent of the annual gross income.

For the chronically ill, a reduced charge limit of one percent applies under certain conditions (chronic illness regulation).

In addition to the statutory co-payments, insured persons also have to pay co-payments for certain services. These include, for example, co-payments if the cost of a medicine exceeds the fixed amount or co-payments for dentures, orthodontics or certain aids.
