Overview of funding opportunities
The statutory health insurance funds support health-related self-help activities in the form of lump-sum and project funding. The legal basis for this is § 20h SGB V in conjunction with the guidelines for self-help support, which the central associations of the health insurance funds have developed with the participation of the leading organizations responsible for representing the interests of self-help and which specify the procedure for self-help support .
Funds available and amounts spent
Self-help is supported by all statutory health insurance funds with a legally defined amount that is adjusted annually. For 2025, this amount is €1.36 per insured person. In addition to the flat-rate funding across all health insurance funds – and the special joint funding of the company health insurance funds at federal and state level – the BKK W&F also supports regional self-help groups in the implementation of projects.
In 2025, BKK W&F spent a total of 40,069.85 euros on self-help funding. For 2026, funding of an estimated 41,000.00 euros is expected to be available. About one-third of this amount is earmarked for project funding.
Project funding
Projects funded by us are limited in time and go beyond the routine tasks of a group. These include, for example, the costs of lectures by external speakers, self-help days or the republication of group-specific information material. It is important that the project is in the future and is co-financed from own funds. We accept applications all year round. Exception: in Bavaria there is a standardized funding procedure via local “round tables”.
If you are a self-help organization at state level or a self-help contact point and would like to submit a project application, you can contact the relevant BKK state association. Self-help organizations at federal level can submit their project application directly to the BKK umbrella organization.
