Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)

Acupuncture is part of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The stimulation of acupuncture points is probably the oldest and most widespread healing method in the world. By inserting needles at precisely defined points on the skin, disorders inside the body can be eliminated or alleviated.

There are various ways of acting on acupuncture points. If needles are inserted into them, this is known as acupuncture, and they can also be stimulated using heat, ultrasound, laser beams or by applying pressure with a finger or pen (acupressure).

Acupuncture can be billed directly via the health card for the following areas of application:

  • Chronic lower back pain
  • Chronic pain in inflammatory knee joint diseases

Statutory health insurance companies generally cover the costs of 10 acupuncture sessions with a panel doctor in the two areas of application mentioned. The prerequisite is that the complaints have persisted for at least six months. In justified exceptional cases, five further sessions are possible.
