Alternative medicine includes remedies used in homeopathy, phytotherapy (medicinal plants), and anthroposophy. These remedies do not require a prescription, but you can only obtain them at a pharmacy.
There is a separate budget of up to 360 euros per year for osteopathy.

The amounts and eligibility requirements listed on this page apply to benefits you receive on or after August 15, 2026.
If you have previously received a service, the framework valid through August 14, 2026, applies. You may continue to submit invoices for such services until March 31, 2027.
Your 2026 annual budget will be increased to the new amount in any case. We will apply any amounts already reimbursed toward this total.
Frequently asked questions
We will reimburse you up to 150 euros per calendar year. We will reimburse the full amount of the invoice until the budget is exhausted—there is no percentage-based copayment.
Reimbursable medicines are
- prescribed in advance by a doctor,
- purchased at a pharmacy or from a mail-order company licensed under German law, and
- is not excluded from reimbursement by a resolution of the Joint Federal Committee (G-BA).
Please submit your documents to us no later than March 31 of the following year.
To receive reimbursement, we need proof of the doctor’s prescription. You can obtain a printout of the e-prescription from your doctor’s office or pharmacy.
We cannot access the information on your insurance card—not even e-prescriptions.
Through August 14, 2026, we reimbursed up to 130 euros per calendar year. The requirements were the same.
You may submit invoices for these medications to us through March 31, 2027.
