The best dental filling is not one. But which material you choose in the worst case depends on many factors.

Frequently asked questions

Since January 1, 2025, dental amalgam may no longer be used for new fillings. Your dental practice must offer you a free alternative. However, it is up to the dental practice to decide on the alternative material.

In the anterior region (incisors and canines of the upper and lower jaw), costs for more expensive materials are also paid. In the posterior region, self-adhesive materials are covered by the contract.

For all other materials, you will be responsible for your own costs.

Tip: As part of a special statutory additional benefit , BKK W&F reimburses up to 80 euros annually for self-financed higher-quality dental fillings (a maximum of 60 for the first, and up to 20 for the second). Please note: Reimbursements for professional dental cleanings or anesthesia services (general anesthesia) for the surgical removal of wisdom teeth – provided these are not services covered by the guidelines of the Federal Joint Committee for adequate, appropriate, and economical contractual dental care – will be applied to this budget. The reimbursement documents for all services must be received by BKK W&F by March 31 of the following year at the latest.
