The nursing care support benefit is a wage replacement benefit that you receive if you are unable to work due to caring for a relative. In this case, we will continue to pay part of your gross salary. The condition for this is that you are caring for a relative who is insured with the BKK W&F. This way, you can fully concentrate on organizing the care.

Requirements

  • In the event of a sudden care situation involving a relative, every employed person is entitled to a Care Support Allowance for a maximum of ten working days per year – regardless of the employer’s company size.
  • The person in need of care must be insured with the BKK W&F. We will pay you, as the caregiver, care support allowance – so that you can organize the care.
  • If the person in need of care is insured with another health and long-term care insurance fund, that fund is responsible.
  • The entitlement applies per calendar year for each person in need of care. It can be divided among several people who share the short-term care.
  • You will only receive the Care Support Allowance if you do not receive a salary during this period. If your employment contract stipulates continued remuneration for such care situations, you will not receive the Care Support Allowance.

Amount

The care support allowance amounts to 90% of the lost net pay. One-time payments such as vacation pay or Christmas bonuses can increase the care support allowance to up to 100%. The care support allowance is capped at € 135,63 per calendar day for the year 2026. This maximum amount is calculated as 70% of the current contribution assessment ceiling.

We deduct your contributions to health, pension, and unemployment insurance before paying out the Care Support Allowance and transfer them, along with the contribution shares of BKK W&F, to the respective insurance.

Application

  1. Employed caregivers can apply for the Care Support Allowance at the health and long-term care insurance fund of the person in need of care – by means of an application form and a medical certificate.
  2. Please send both by post to BKK W&F. Once we receive your employer’s earnings certificate, payment will be made to you immediately.
  3. We are happy to assist you with the application for the Care Support Allowance.
Note: All benefit descriptions on this website are intended to be as easy to understand as possible. The legally binding wording can be found in the Social Code and in the most current version of the BKK WIRTSCHAFT & FINANZEN bylaws.
