Many people usually research their health problems on the Internet before seeking medical help. But health information from the web is not always accurate or even serious and, above all, cannot replace medical advice. Only with sufficient health literacy can you benefit from health information.

Health literacy involves finding, understanding, evaluating, and applying health information.

To find

Evaluate

Trustworthy information can be identified on the basis of various characteristics. Reputable health information usually has quality awards for assessing online health information, such as afgis or HON code.

The websites should be free of advertising and brand names, texts should be up-to-date. It should always be stated that this health information does not replace a visit to the doctor. Old problem, new term: digital health literacy

Frequently asked questions

Digital health literacy is a specific form of health literacy and encompasses the ability to find, understand, evaluate and use health information in relation to digital applications and digital information services. In future, statutory health insurance funds should offer services that strengthen the digital health literacy of insured persons.

These services are intended to inform insured persons and enable them to access and use digital health services.

The BKK W&F reimburses the costs up to a maximum of 60 euros for services promoting digital health literacy for the self-determined, health-oriented use of digital or telemedicine applications and procedures.

Funding is excluded,

  • if the BKK WIRTSCHAFT & FINANZEN provides a free benefit in kind.
  • if it is a training course that covers general knowledge in the use of hardware and software and does not provide any specific reference to a health-related application.

Important: Please apply for a reimbursement from the BKK WIRTSCHAFT & FINANZEN in advance.
