Inpatients are admitted to hospital if more extensive treatment is required. Alternative forms can also be partial inpatient, pre- and post-hospitalization and acute outpatient emergency treatment. This also includes cost-intensive procedures such as heart operations or organ transplants.

If there is no emergency, insured persons need to be admitted to hospital by a doctor in advance.
