Manual lymphatic drainage is the manual drainage and drainage of tissue fluid via tissue gaps or lymph vessels.
It is based on rhythmic, circular grip techniques, including the flat placement of the fingers and hands. This and the finely dosed pressure are applied in a set sequence depending on the clinical picture. Lymphatic drainage is particularly suitable for treating various types of oedema, i.e. water retention in the tissue. It is also very important in the follow-up treatment of surgical procedures in which lymph nodes have been removed.
