Recognizing undesirable developments in children in good time

Healthy and straight teeth are not only beautiful, but also offer protection against tooth decay. From the age of six, children can be examined by a dentist once every six months as a precautionary measure and free of charge. Malformations can thus be detected at an early stage and treated in good time with a referral to an orthodontist.

Frequently asked questions

Your orthodontist uses orthodontic indication groups (KIG) to determine whether there is a malocclusion for which treatment costs are covered by statutory health insurance. There are five different degrees of severity.

From KIG three, the BKK W&F may cover the costs of orthodontic treatment due to significant functional impairments caused by jaw and tooth misalignments up to the age of 18. If treatment begins after the age of 18, this is also possible in the case of severe jaw anomalies.

The 20 percent co-payment initially due to the orthodontist (or 10 percent from the second child with simultaneous treatment) will be reimbursed by us after successful completion of the treatment.

This also applies if the treatment was started with another health insurance fund and membership in the BKK W&F only exists at the conclusion of the treatment.
