The doctor will decide together with you which medication to prescribe. In addition to the best-known contraceptive pill, hormone sticks, the hormone coil or, as a hormone-free alternative, the copper coil are also available.

The costs of prescription contraceptives are covered by health insurance up to one day before your 22nd birthday. In this case, you do not need to submit an application in advance. You simply show your health card. From the age of 18, however, the statutory co-payment applies (10% of the costs, minimum 5.00 euros, maximum 10.00 euros).

Sterilization is considered the safest method of contraception – for men or women. The costs are covered if it is necessary for medical reasons. Your doctor will decide whether it needs to be carried out for medical reasons. In this case, you do not need to submit an application in advance. You simply show your health card.

If sterilization is to be performed for other reasons, the costs must be borne by the patient.

The “morning-after pill” is a hormonal emergency contraceptive that women can take after a contraceptive failure or unprotected sexual intercourse to avoid becoming pregnant unintentionally.
