For German sports physicians, there is no debate: newcomers and those returning to sport must undergo a medical examination before taking up sporting activity in order to prevent possible pre-existing conditions and the associated risks.

From January 1, 2026, the BKK W&F will reimburse 100 percent of the invoice amount for sports medicine services each year, up to a maximum of 250 euros.

The prerequisite is a medical certificate stating that the examination is suitable and necessary to prevent or detect cardiac or orthopaedic diseases at an early stage and to avoid their aggravation.

If there are other medically certified risks*, insured persons can also claim the following extended benefits:

  • Exercise electrocardiogram
  • Pulmonary function test
  • Lactate determination

The reimbursement documents must be received by BKK W&F by March 31 of the following year at the latest.

* increased body weight, increased blood pressure, cardiovascular diseases, respiratory diseases, skeletal diseases, diabetes, smoking or alcohol abuse
