Here you will find answers to questions that we receive very frequently. If your question is not answered here, please contact us directly.
The general contribution rate for those with statutory health insurance is 14,6 percent. In addition, there is the supplementary contribution rate specific to BKK W&F. Since 01. Januar 2025, this amounts to 3,99 percent.
For employees, both contribution rates are borne equally by the employer and the employee. The insured person’s share of the additional contribution is therefore 1,995 percent for employees. This also applies when drawing a statutory pension.
Did you know?
To ensure that a low income structure of members does not lead to disadvantages, there is full income equalization when calculating the income from the supplementary contribution.
The additional contribution rate of BKK W&F is therefore not based on the above-average income of our members, but on the average income of all members of statutory health insurance funds. Payments made by our members in excess of the average do not benefit BKK W&F, but are automatically passed on to health insurance funds with below-average income levels – even if health insurance funds with a financially weaker structure can thereby achieve advantages in the form of more favorable contributions.
Each statutory health insurance fund therefore calculates the amount of the supplementary contribution in such a way that the expenditure of its own members is covered on the basis of the average income of all those with statutory health insurance. The supplementary contribution is therefore only individual to each health insurance fund in terms of expenditure.
Yes, all contributions for statutory health insurance are applied. This also includes the supplementary contribution.
If you pay less for health insurance by switching, you will also have to pay more tax on your gross salary. This eats up a small part of the hoped-for savings. A comparison of benefits is therefore more worthwhile than ever.
Yes. This is because not every health insurance fund consistently utilizes the legally permissible scope for additional benefits via individual statutes as thoroughly and without loopholes through limited global budgets as the BKK W&F.
The BKK W&F is ideal for anyone looking for the best overall package of additional benefits across all phases of life.
Yes. The additional benefits of the BKK W&F are also immediately available to new customers.
We have deliberately dispensed with the limitations that are widespread among other health insurance companies, such as joint upper reimbursement limits for several benefit areas, maximum reimbursement amounts per family and discounts for new customers, in order to make our offers as comprehensible as possible.
What conditions are attached to the payment of the bonus?
The evidence must be confirmed in the BKK bonus certificate by the service provider (e.g. doctor); self-confirmations are not sufficient. In addition, the bonus certificate must be received by us by March 31 of the following year. Members whose benefit claims are suspended cannot participate in the bonus program.
What Bonuses are Available in the BKK W&F Bonus Program for Adults?
Adults in both bonus levels receive a bonus of 20 euros per proven requirement. You can find out more at https://www.bkk-wf.de/leistungen/bonusprogramm-erwachsene/.

How long does it take to process bonus applications?
The volume of bonus booklets is traditionally very high around the turn of the year. In order to ensure the fastest possible processing, we kindly ask you to refrain from inquiring about the current processing status during this time. Thank you for your understanding.

There are two options for these cases, in which a so-called “electronic replacement certificate” is sent directly to the practice:
- If the so-called practice’s KIM address is known (usually available as a QR code at registration), insured persons can scan this code via the BKK app of the online branch (OGS) (section “My BKK W&F”, tile “Certificates”).
The insured person’s data will then be sent electronically from BKK W&F to the practice automatically and within a few minutes.
This offer is mandatory (this obligation does not yet apply to dentists). - The practice can also request an electronic replacement certificate without an app via its own practice management software. However, the consent of the insured person must be documented separately.
Practices can offer this service voluntarily.
All statutory health insurance funds are obliged to offer their policyholders a digital identity (sometimes also called a health ID) for the secure use of digital services. This digital identity should enable insured persons to log in to all non-insurance-specific digital health applications such as the ePrescription app in future.
Little will change for BKK W&F members, as this legal requirement has long been standard for BKK W&F apps, and it is also possible to log in to the e-prescription app, which is uniform for all health insurance funds.
BKK W&F already offers these services using the identical digital identity:
BKK W&F OGS – The online branch for BKK W&F members
BKK W&F ePA – The electronic patient record for BKK W&F members
The easy way to a digital identity: Register in the BKK W&F OGS or BKK W&F ePA apps – that’s it!
You can easily upload a (new) photograph via the BKK online branch or in the Health Card section.
If voluntary applications are used, insured persons alone can decide whether and which medical data should be stored using the health card access key. No one can access this confidential data without consent. A personal identification number (PIN) is required for this. This secret number turns the card into the insured person’s personal key.
As a counterpart, (dental) doctors and psychotherapists also receive their own card, the so-called health professional card.
The data can only be decrypted and read once the health card and the healthcare professional ID card are inserted in the card reader and both sides have identified themselves with their respective personal identification number (PIN).
Important:
- No PIN is required for everyday use at doctor’s appointments or for reading out emergency data, even after the card has been issued.
- Each health card is provided with its own PIN. If you receive a new card, an existing PIN is therefore worthless.
So that you can assign a PIN to the only valid health card, we will also provide you with a card identification number in the letter accompanying the PIN. This identification number can be found on the back of the card.
Prior secure identification is required to use many voluntary applications by entering a PIN. The Nect Robo-Ident procedure offers a convenient way to check the eID of your ID card.
The following procedures are also available to you:
- Personal visit to one of our branches (we identify you)
- Postident at home (upon request from the BKK W&F, a postman will visit you at home and identify you)
For all procedures, please have your eGK and ID card ready. After successful identification, you will automatically receive a PIN from us via Deutsche Post.
Most smartphones and tablets now have an NFC interface. This allows you to access your health card “contactlessly”. With the introduction of the electronic patient file, the first real application is available that can be opened securely from a smartphone or tablet using a card and PIN.

The electronic exchange of health data is subject to many legal requirements. These include, among other things, unambiguous identification of the sender. This applies in particular if master data is to be changed or payments recorded. This is not usually the case with emails.
Therefore, please use our online office if you would like to provide us with the relevant documents. If we need the original documents for legal reasons or if you have to keep them for a certain period of time for verification purposes, we will contact you as soon as possible. In this case, you are welcome to use our postage-free return envelope print out.
The National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds (GKV-Spitzenverband) has the legally defined task of drawing up guidelines for secure communication between health insurance funds and their policyholders. Specifically, the guidelines in accordance with Section 217f of the Fifth Social Security Code (SGB ) and its annex set out concrete measures to protect the social data of insured persons from unauthorized access, which must be observed by the health insurance funds when communicating with insured persons. These specifications were agreed in advance with both the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection (BfDI) and the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and approved by the Federal Ministry of Health.
The postal address therefore achieves the same high level of protection as the actual health data, as it acts as the central point of receipt for all types of mail.
The key messages in detail:
- If the address of the authorized party is changed, a “high” level of protection with regard to integrity must be assumed, as this is also used for the provision of data with a “high” level of protection.
- A […] high level of protection can only be achieved through unambiguous authentication of the authorized party.
Therefore, please do not send your personal data to us by e-mail. We also ask for your understanding that we do not change personal data even after receiving information by telephone.
If your personal data has changed, please let us know by post (with signature) or online via the BKKonline office (OGS). Thank you very much.
All statutory health insurance funds are obliged to check the insurance status of family members insured free of charge on an annual basis. The health insurance funds will only receive money for their care from the health fund if the relevant evidence is complete.
Conversely, any insurance period for which no questionnaire has been returned will be canceled by the supervisory authority. This means that valuable premium money is lost.
We are therefore also dependent on your support: If you receive a questionnaire, please fill it out and send it back to us.
Yes, the collection of data is necessary for the fulfillment of our tasks. You can find more information in the Services section.

The BKK WIRTSCHAFT & FINANZEN (BKK W&F) was founded in 1999 as a company health insurance fund for a renowned auditing firm. Since 2007, it has been a statutory health insurance fund that can be chosen by anyone in many federal states. Unfortunately, only persons who live in Schleswig-Holstein, Thuringia, Saxony-Anhalt or Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania at the time of their desired accession and do not work in another federal state cannot become a member of the BKK W&F.
The headquarters are located in Melsungen, in northern Hesse. BKK W&F also has a branch in neighboring Kassel, which is also open to the public.
A merger is not part of the company’s history, so the growth to date has largely resulted from recommendations from family, friends and acquaintances.
The company number of the BKK W&F is 469 676 93.
The institution codes of the BKK W&F are 105 734 543 (West) and 105 792 123 (East).
The institution code of the nursing care insurance fund is 185 734 543 (West) or 185 792 123 (East).
The bank details of the BKK W&F can also be found by insured persons in the section for employers.
