Insurance comparison
Comparing statutory and private health insurance
- Family friendlyGesetzliche Krankenversicherung – GKV
monthly income under 5.775 €
- Solidarity principle: Each insured individual contributes the same percentage of their income as a premium.
- Family members without their own income are covered at no cost and are entitled to the same benefits as the earning members.
- Profit-making is not allowed.
- Private Krankenversicherung – PKV
monthly income above 5.775 €
- The premiums for private health insurance are determined based on factors such as your health condition, age, and the specific insurance plan you choose.
- Additionally, private insurers may impose a risk premium or even refuse coverage based on your health status. Unlike in the public healthcare system, where fees are regulated by the government, private health insurance premiums are set by the insurers themselves.
- Services can be tailored to individual policyholders, but each insured individual typically incurs a separate fee. Unlike the statutory system, where one fee covers the entire family, private health insurance requires separate fees for each family member.
